Depository services are given by financial institutions to keep and assist securities such as stocks and bonds in an electronic form known as Demat (Dematerialized Account) rather than a physical form.

1. National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL)

National Securities Depository Limited was founded on 8th November 1996 as an Indian central securities depository. This financial organization performs under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). To revolutionize the Indian financial market, it introduced a dematerialized format for all tradable securities in India, becoming India’s first electronic securities depository. National Stock Exchange (NSE) primarily promotes this depository.

2. Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL)

Central Depository Services Limited is the second Indian central securities depository which was founded in February 1999. It helps you with dematerializing physical certificates and rematerializing electronic securities. It focuses on offering convenient, secure, and affordable services to every individual taking part in the capital market. CDSL is primarily promoted by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Actual Depository (NSDL&CDSL) Fees and charges to Depository Participants

₹20/- per scrip (₹3.50 CDSL fee/₹4/- NSDL fee + GST) is charged to the client when DIS for market pay in of stocks is given by client, irrespective of value.

₹10/- per scrip (₹3.50 CDSL fee/₹4/- NSDL fee + GST) is charged in the trading account ledger when stocks are sold and securities are transferred by using DDPI/POA, irrespective of value.

₹25/- per scrip or 0.01% of instruction value whichever is higher (₹3.50 CDSL fee/₹4 NSDL fee + GST) is charged to the client when DIS for off market transfer of stocks is given by client.

Pledge charges

Pledge creation, closure and invocation charge ₹50/-, ₹20/- and ₹25/- (for NSDL pledge creation ₹25/-, No charge for Closure and invocation) and for CDSL Pledge creation ₹12/-, for Closure ₹12/- and for invocation ₹5/-) per ISIN+GST

Margin pledge charges

Margin Pledge creation, Unpledge and invocation charge by POA/DDPI ₹20/- (For NSDL Margin Pledge creation ₹5/-, For Repledge to CM ₹ 1/-, Repledge to CC ₹ 1/-, Margin pledge released  and invocation ₹5/- and 

For CDSL Margin Pledge creation ₹5/-, Repledge to CM ₹ 5/- Repledge to CC ₹ 1/-, Margin pledge released  and invocation ₹5/-. For CUSPA transaction pledge and unpledged charges ₹5/- per ISIN+GST.

Remat Charges

For NSDL and CDSL

₹ 10/- for every hundred securities or part thereof subject to maximum fee of ₹ 5,00,000/-; or a flat fee of ₹ 10/- per certificate, whichever is higher. 

Annual Maintenance 

For NSDL - Corporate accounts and Client Securities Margin Pledge Account -₹ 500/- p.a.

For CDSL CUSPA and Corporate accounts -₹ 500/- p.a.
